APPLICATIONS for access
DCI - OpenZR + 400G POLS or Muxy
One of the simplest applications for QSFP-DD DCO modules is connecting two data centers with multiple 400G links. Even a basic point-to-point connection can have several variations:
- Passive Optical Multiplexing
In the simplest setup, passive optical multiplexers and modules are installed directly in network devices. This configuration can support up to 64 400G channels over distances of 30-40 km. - Pluggable Optical Line System (POLS)
By using POLS, which is a pluggable optical line system, we can transfer 12 DWDM channels over distances of up to 120 km. This setup allows for the entire DWDM system to fit within the QSFP28 module. - Extended Distance and Channel Capacity
For applications requiring more channels or where distances exceed 40 km, a multiplexer with 75 or 100 GHz spacing and optical amplifiers becomes necessary.
Access - 100ZR + POLS
The long-awaited QSFP28 100G DCO modules are finally available, enabling the construction of access networks in an even simpler way. These modules offer multiple options:
- Passive Multiplexers or OADM
You can use passive multiplexers or OADM systems, the same ones currently supporting Nx10G systems in access networks. This allows for straightforward testing and deployment. - Colorless Networks with Optical Splitters
Alternatively, you can simplify further by using QSFP28 DCO modules without multiplexers. Thanks to their coherent receivers, these modules enable the creation of colorless networks using optical splitters. - POLS for Extended Power Budgets
If additional power is needed, POLS (Pluggable Optical Line System) can be used. This system includes two automatic amplifiers built directly into the QSFP28 module, extending the power budget for longer distances.
